Veronica’s Pov
I had woken up early for my interview with daily times magazine, I had submitted my article to them and they sent a message to my email telling me to come and defend my work, if I can persuade them enough that my article could catch enough attention to the daily times magazine, they might hire me to start working as their article/content writer.
It has always been my dream to write for a popular news magazine ever since I moved to New York; I recently just moved here after finishing my writing courses in royal Holloway, university of London I wanted to have more than enough ideas and experience to be able to be hired.
I knocked on the door of the Editor-in chief, “come in” a voice said from inside, “Ms.blossom, Nice to finally meet you in person” the young fine looking man, probably in his twenties got up to give me an handshake, “the pleasure is all mine”
“please seat” he added as he gestured to the empty seat in front of him, I adjusted my pleated skirt and sat as I placed my hand bag on my legs
“I’ve gone through your article Ms. Blossom and I must admit that I was really….blown” he emphasized, “thank you sir” I smiled
“But why did you choose to write your article based on disabled figures in history” he leaned in his seat and I sighed, it’s time to defend my work
“well you see Mr. Greg, I hardly see any news about people with disabilities in the magazines so I thought to create an article based on the accomplishments of disabled figures, I felt if they woke up one morning they would know that even with their flaws they are still loved and appreciated” I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear
“that’s thoughtful of you, the article is well written, good grammatical structures and all, even the title is captivating but we can’t publish this Ms. Blossom” he rested his elbow on the table and my heart sank at the mention of the word “we can’t publish”,
“Why?” I managed to say irrespective of my publishing dream crashing in front of my face, “Ms. Blossom, the daily times is about trending news, stories that are fresh, fashion and everything” he explained further
I was silent for a while, “I judged the book based on how well it would fit in with our audience and the Percentage of our readers interest in your article is very low” he added
“thank you Mr. Greg, I really appreciate your effort, I should take my leave now” I got up from the seat, “Ms. Blossom, we are still open to more submissions, you can write an article based on the tips I gave you and then we would proceed with the publishing” he said and I nodded positively as I walked out of the office
I exhaled as I closed the door behind me, well another article of mine bites the dust, it’s really hard to make a dream come through, I just wished I had my own publishing house and I don’t have to be under anybody. My phone started vibrating in my bag and I brought it out, its Chester, my boyfriend
“Hey” I said in a low tone, “Hey vee, are you done with your interview?” he asked over the phone, “it didn’t go as I expected” I sighed as I walked further
“I’m sorry babe, do you want to talk about it?” he asked, I guess I should, just to get it off my chest “yeah, I do”, “I’m still at the shop, come meet me” he said, Chester works the morning shift at a Pastry shop, it may sound weird but Chester is an excellent baker
“sure thing, see you in a bit” I hung up and cleared my throat as I stopped a taxi, “the park please” I said to the driver as I got in the cab, The pastry shop is close to the park, they make excellent sales every day, it’s totally relatable how every one wants to bite on a bagel while reading a newspaper in the park, or the kids running around holding a pretzel
The taxi soon stopped and I got down, I gave the driver a $5 bill and he drove off, I crossed to enter the pastry shop and the last customer walked out as I walked in.
Chester was standing by the cash register, “I want to make an order” I said playfully as I placed my elbow on the counter and he turned to look at me
“Babe” he removed his apron as he came to give me a hug and little kiss on the lips, “I’m sorry baby” he added as he let go of the hug
“it’s fine babe” I chuckled as I rubbed my temple, “no it’s not and I can see it in your eyes, talk to me” he placed his hands on my shoulder
“they said they liked my article but it’s not daily times worthy” I rolled my eyes, “so what if the editor is blind to see how bomb your article would be for the daily times, you’re still a bad ass writer” he re-assured me and I let out a little laugh, “you know what, why don’t you reach out to New York independent publishing” he shrugged, “I didn’t think of that” I chuckled, “try it, with your qualifications, you’d definitely be hired babe” he kissed my forehead, “I will check if they are hiring, thanks babe” I blushed, “anything for you, so what would you like to eat?” he walked back to the counter
“how about a bagel, with jelly” I said, “coming up my lady, hold on let me get the fresh jar of jelly” he winked as he walked into the storage room
I sighed as I stood waiting for him by the counter, the door bell chimed as someone walked in, a tall man, lean yet muscular and broad shouldered with dark colored hair and intense bright blue eyes walked towards the counter, he looked fine as hell
“Can I get a doughnut please?” he asked me, it took a while before I realized he was talking to me,
